Intimate, densely drawn and quietly homely, the Hobonichi Techo A6 Original Cover Yumi Kitagishi: White Cat House is the illustrator’s fourth collaboration with Hobonichi. The design feels like looking in on a dollhouse: a white cat and other small animals living among wallpaper, furniture, dishes and tiny table-top things. Painted in acrylic gouache and printed on polyester so the colour and texture stay vivid. Wherever you look, something new appears.
The front is a warm, red-based scene. Inside, the lining resembles pale-green wallpaper. The right-hand pocket shows a white cat at a dollhouse. Butterfly-stopper pen holders are made in the manner of Tyrolean tape, with small flowers; the bookmark is a plain ribbon. Across the back, windows of different shapes; look into the pocket and the rooms inside those windows come into view. Tucked into a corner: “HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.”
